Security Measures for Financial Matters for Senior Citizens

  1. DO NOT click on any unknown links received via SMS, email, or WhatsApp, as this could lead to malware attacks or unauthorized tracking of your device.
  2. Do not share personal information such as your Aadhar card, PAN card, or voter ID, as this sensitive data can be copied, sold, or misused. If necessary, use your driver’s license as identification or proof of address, or consider obtaining a special government ID, which is safer for such matters.
  3. Never disclose your bank details, credit card information, or UPI ID. Change your passwords every three months for additional security.
  4. Create a separate bank account with a maximum balance of 25,000 and use the debit or credit card linked to this account for regular transactions. Additionally, connect your UPI account to this bank account.
  5. Always shred or tear up your bank statements, electricity bills, credit card bills, and air tickets to protect your personal information.
  6. Never share your OTP or any bank or financial details over the phone. For any financial transactions, visit your bank in person.
  7. Keep all financial information and passwords in a small physical notebook and avoid storing such data on your phone. Whenever you change a password, be sure to note it down along with the account abbreviation and date for easy reference.
  8. Use cash in unfamiliar locations. I prefer cash for most transactions. Digital payments can leave a trail, compromising your privacy, as this information can be exploited to gain unauthorized access.
  9. Exercise caution with delivery personnel. Verify their ID if needed and use cash exclusively. Strictly, DO NOT use debit or credit cards on their machines, and quickly close the door once you have received your package.
  10. Remain alert at all times. Steer clear of distractions like phone calls or texting while deliveries or repairs are happening. Stay engaged, and ensure to show them out promptly once their work is finished.
SAFETY IS IMPORTANT!!!
PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN FIGHTING ENDLESS BATTLES, MOST OF WHICH ARE LIKELY TO BE LOST…
